Barbara Marion is the songwriting project of Sonja Barbara Marion Byrne.

Half German, half Irish, a Londoner born and bred. Her career has seen her sing with Celtic folk group Rún at Celtic Connections, Glastonbury and the Green Note; sing on the soundtrack to Channel 4’s War Oratorio; sing with Bellowhead in Southbank Centre’s production of The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner and perform at the Edinburgh and Dublin Fringe Festivals.

An acoustic balladeer, Barbara Marion happily sits on the fence between genres, giving a wave to Americana, a salute to the lounge music of the 40s & 50s and a nod to jazz. The result is a classic sound that captures a spectrum of influences ranging from Kirsty MacCall to Julie London, to the folk balladry of Luke Kelly.

Barbara Marion released her debut EP Terra Firma on Friday 20th January 2017 with a launch gig at The Slaughtered Lamb in Clerkenwell, London. Terra Firma was recorded at London’s Crypt Studios and was produced by BBC Radio 2 Folk Award Winner Ben Walker.
